Prepare for the new Water Rabbit year

The Chinese New Year is almost here and many of you are expecting my yearly recommendations!

What will the Water Rabbit Year be made of?

The rabbit is a symbol of peace, longevity and stability. The rabbit gets along with everyone, in a simple trustworthy and honest way. A gentle creature, the Water Rabbit has a yin energy, full of empathy and patience. This year will offer flexibility, gentleness and smoothness. Times of contemplation will be possible, even encouraged.

The rabbit takes its time to sniff around and hop gently, carefully and gracefully.

Water is an emotional element, which means that empathy and caring will be at the forefront of relationships.

Mindfulness, gentleness and honest behaviours will play a big part in our success during this upcoming Water Rabbit Year.

2023 will also be great for solidifying careers, building block by block. Hard work and consistency will pay off, as well as professions involving writing, coaching, listening to others and the environment.

In the romance sector, the Water Rabbit year is also very auspicious, with singles likely to meet their soulmates and people in committed relationships feeling more depth of love.

Please see below my main recommendations for 2023. I will describe the positive and negative sectors in your home, according to the Flying Stars method (not a method I use year round, because of its complexity and its changing nature, but I find it useful at the beginning of each Chinese year or when moving into a new home). 
 
During the year of the Water Rabbit, the Flying Stars will make apparent that the following areas are best to avoid/ not activated: the  West, the South East, the North East and the North West.

The traditional way of not disturbing these areas is by avoiding drilling, construction or renovations in those sectors of your home.  But if you have to build or landscape in any of these sectors, you can place a metallic wind chime outside the home, near the area that is being renovated or landscaped.
  
See below the lucky and unlucky directions for 2023 according to the Flying Stars. 

It should be noted that people living in apartments will have to take their compass directions, and combine some traditional Feng Shui with front door Feng Shui. For example, if I live in an apartment and my front door is in Career, but also in the South, some cures might seem less intuitive to you. Use the compass to guide you and while you can keep your front door Feng Shui the same, you will just add the cures mentioned below in the right cardinal directions. 
 
Positive areas in 2023 (activate with a water feature, crystals, mirrors, chimes, décor):

• South - 8 Annual star (enhance your wealth luck and reputation with the“fire” and “earth” element, diplomas, awards…)

• South West- 1 Annual star (gold objects, Metal element, Boat representation, a golden toad representing wealth, a Wealth bowl or a singing bowl)

• West - 6 Annual star (decorate with earthy decor, terracotta)

• North- 9 Annual star (decorate with wood element, plants, fresh flowers, colors green and blue)

• Center- 4 Annual star (reds or fire element, romantic photos, love)

 
Negative areas in 2023:
 
You can place a salt water cure in some of those areas (South East, East or North West would be my recommendations), which will absorb negative energies. In addition, here are a few more cures:

• South East (Sickness star) - 3 Annual star (place 6 Chinese coins tied in a row or a “fiery” item- do not disturb)

• East - 2 Annual star (salt water cure). Nothing of the Fire element.

• North East – 7 Annual star (Place water colors, no fire or candles, do not disturb, a vase with water to renew frequently)

• North West - 5 Annual star (place a salt water cure, or a decoration from the Water element - undulating black shapes for example)

You can get started on enhancing the sectors of your home right away, before the new year, so you can be ready with plenty of time!

My cure spilled accidentally / My cure is overflowing

Hey there…

So your cure spilled?

Pets, children, other household members (and even us) might have knocked over our precious salt water cure. Clearly, it’s not ideal, as the whole purpose of the salt water cure is to attract and trap the negative energy present in our homes into a contained space.

What you should do if your salt water cure accidentally got knocked over?

You should wash the area where it spilled thoroughly with latex gloves on if possible. Toss the cure. When tossing the cure, best to place it in a plastic bag, toss your gloves and seal the bag right away. Then put it in the outdoor trash. Afterwards, wash your hands thoroughly.

You can then smudge with open windows and reset intentions. Here is a video that explains how to smudge.

After airing out the room, you can proceed to making a new salt water cure.

Another example of a spillage that can occur if the cure is hyperactive (meaning that it’s probably working hard to remove any the negative energies in your home). Here is an example below:

You proceed the same way as if the cure spilled: wash, toss, air out (smudge if possible) and make a new one.

We are soon to celebrate the Metal Ox year starting on Feb 12, 2021. So if you need to renew your cure or prepare one for the first time, now might be the time to think about buying what you will need!

• a glass container that you won’t mind throwing away

• a plastic plate for accidental spills / overflow (better than the cardboard pictured)

• 6 Chinese coins

• coarse salt (I like Himalayan salt)

And you’re good to go!

How to prepare your Salt Water Cure

A salt water cure made with Himalayan salt

A Salt Water cure is a powerful Feng Shui tool which can remove negative energies from your house throughout the year. Using salt’s natural cleansing power, we can direct negative energies into to this cure, and therefore regenerate the Chi.

As I mentioned in my latest blog post, a salt water cure will be necessary in some areas. They are the South and the East. They should be placed in open air (not in a cabinet), in a safe place from kids, children and disturbances.

What you will need:

• A glass, ceramic or porcelain container. (choose a container that you do not like too much, as it will be thrown into the trash next year. I use recyclable glass containers such as the one pictured, although I much prefer the low containers to the high ones).

• Salt: the coarser the better, but fine salt would work too. (This year, I’m trying a mix of Himalayan salt and semi-fine sea salt. We will see…)

• Chinese coins

• A small plastic tray, cardboard or paper towel.

• Water.

How to make it:

• Place salt in the container, filling 3/4 of it.

• Place 6 Chinese coins on the salt Yang side up. The Yang sign has the 4 Chinese characters.

• Pour water over the salt carefully, enough to cover the salt but not to the top.

• Place the cure on a tray, a small cardboard or paper towel before placing on your furniture. This is important, so as not to damage or spill on your furniture, which would propagate the negative energy onto it.

The cures in 2020 are best placed in the South or in the East (this year’s unlucky directions).
